Design
Almost as important as the messages you want to deliver, is how you want to deliver them.
The size, shape and design of a book are an integral part of its effectiveness which need to be determined upfront.
Determining the appropriate quality/unit cost for each book project is an over-riding component of any book.
Focus advises on the method of printing, binding and 'quality' issues and options available to ensure the maximum impact is created for the minimum price. Customisable options include:
- printing
- language editions
- special features
- parchment pages
- ribbon book mark
- presentation boxes
- mailing boxes
- gatefolds
- 'french-fold dust jackets'
One size does not fit all. Our designers work closely with our clients to ensure that each book meets their requirements and exceeds their expectations. After consultation with our clients, the key design phases are:
Layout
This is the stage in a book's development where the designer takes all the elements in a book (text and images/graphics) and arranges them into the best possible configuration, designing a book layout that is relevant, easy to read and visually engaging, all the while remembering the purpose and audience of the book.
Photography
They say a picture is worth a thousand words: this is certainly true in books. A great photograph not only brings a story to life, it also leaves the reader with a powerful visual message. There are many styles of photography, from simple product shots, candid photo-journalistic style through to highly staged, digitally-enhanced productions. Each has its own specific application and each tells a very different story.
Corporate Requirements
A book, designed for corporate clients as part of their marketing strategy, must complement a company's image as well as be relevant and engaging. A corporate history book has a "currency" for about 2-3 years and so must effectively capture a company's future as well as its past.
