In 2005, the New South Wales State Emergency Service will celebrate 50 years of helping our community.
Beginning in 1955 when disastrous floods hit New South Wales, the SES is comprised of groups of trained volunteers with local knowledge who are available at short notice to deal with such emergencies. Managing the effects of floods and storms remains the SES’s main responsibility 50 years on. However, they also provide the majority of the general rescue effort in rural areas and support the other emergency services during other disasters.
