Saudi Arabia and Australia

Saudi Arabia and Australia share a significant bilateral relationship that is positioned for strong growth based on existing trade, cultural, and person-to-person linkages.

In 2007 two-way trade totalled A$3.3 billion. This is set to grow across the range of investment, construction and engineering, education, medical, food and professional services.

As the largest economy in the Gulf Cooperation Council, progress towards a Free Trade Agreement between Australia and the GCC will further extend trade between the two countries, as will closer political co-operation across a number of important regional and global issues and the extension of cultural exchanges.

The complementary nature of our two resource-driven economies presents a wide range of opportunities for each nation.

Saudi Arabia is Australia’s largest market in the Middle East. The diversification of the Kingdom’s economy, the vast growth of its education, health and agriculture sectors, and the development of its Economic Cities and other mega-projects all complement Australia’s already well-established capabilities in the region.

Australia presents strong regional leadership in the Asia Pacific for the Kingdom with the world’s most resilient investment environment, as well as welcoming inbound investment. Opportunities in energy, automotive manufacturing, agriculture, tourism, and education are of particular interest to the Kingdom.

The book Saudi Arabia–Australia: Regional Leaders, Global Partners, will showcase this dynamic and growing relationship.
